Sound Therapies
Mary is certified in Therapeutic Listening® programs, which combine sound therapy with sensory integration and provide an ideal way to maintain the foundation skills that are built during individual sessions.
Mary has completed highly specialized training from Vital Links vitallinks.net with Sheila Frick and will develop a therapeutic listening protocol that is designed for your individual needs and can be carried out at home with ongoing support.
Read more information about sound therapy below and contact Mary if you’re interested in talking with her about developing your own program.
“Since the auditory system has connections to many parts of the brain, sound is a powerful way to access the nervous system and affect changes at all levels. The music in Therapeutic Listening® albums gives the listener unique and precisely controlled sensory information. The music is electronically modified to highlight the parts of the sound spectrum that naturally trigger attention and activate body movement. In addition to the electronic modifications, Therapeutic Listening® capitalizes on the organized rhythmical sound patterns inherent in music to trigger the self-organizing capacities of the nervous system.
Clients listen to specifically recorded and enhanced music via headphones as a part of an in-clinic and/or home therapy program. Therapeutic Listening® is implemented as part of a home program designed by a trained therapist to suit the unique needs of each client. There are five different series of music, with over 45 album selections, from which therapists can choose to develop a custom therapy program to suit the individual needs of each client.
Practitioners and caregivers commonly report seeing improvements in:
• sensory modulation
• posture and movement
• attention
• improved social interactions
• increased engagement in the world…all leading to gains in day to day function and communication.

Simplicity Parenting©
There is research evidence that Simplicity Parenting© helps care providers to learn developmentally applicable and useful ways to make small changes and successfully influence children’s sensory processing given their cognitive and emotional regulation limitations.
Collaborative Counseling and Simplicity Parenting© coaching offer processes that can be applied using a holistic approach with a strong basis for resolving relationship conflicts and supporting ways to develop healthy family social interactions.
Many times I have felt challenged by the design of our complex lives, shameful of waste and neglect of our earth’s resources, even as I give my best to living simply and sustainably. I have resisted the impulse to grow more sophisticated and wondered if I could sustain simple values among family and friends without alienating myself or causing my children to feel “too weird” compared to their friends.
As a result I have learned how important it is to follow my intuition and instincts regardless of whether specialists or concerned neighbors wonder if we are “out of touch” and maybe need to catch up with the rest of the world. The times with my family and friends of completely uncensored fulfilling, playful, creative, spontaneous interactions and loving resilience have made me more aware of the importance to practice Simplicity Parenting© than any other momentary distraction. Becoming a Simplicity Parenting Coach© is an entrance through a new doorway.
The training has helped me learn to guide myself with others through the process of change in a supportive way. I’m a researcher in my own learning process with others while I am recognizing many moments of potential overwhelm and many opportunities for continued practice and my own refinement. Collaborative Counseling provides a scaffold for all the different perspectives of a group to be heard, and for collaborative brainstorming of ideas for creative resolution to occur.
A transformative and empowering experience is facilitated as everything is put out into the air and people start to unravel their feelings, unfold their thoughts and are given space to settle and flow into new perspectives and ideas until the process moves into a grounded resolution. As a collaborative counselor, I set the stage for responsive listening, weaving together different perspectives and ideas through exploration. This opens up a space to shift the whole group to move together into cohesive collaborative action ~ Mary Blake

“In an era of scripted, preformed curricula not arising out of the experience, but from ready-made formulas and presentations we long for meaningful experiences in the artistry of true encounters each day. Training in observation, opportunities to reflect and experience, find support in finding one’s own creative gifts, raising and exploring questions in active dialogue with one another during life’s routines and tasks remind us of our own body’s knowledge and wisdom.” -E. Swartz, J. Petrash
